Human resources and skills
Well-trained and well-managed staff are the key to business success
The UK needs a skilled workforce to compete with China, India and other emerging economies, with continued government investment necessary in training and development. The Sustainable Skills White Paper has set out how this challenge will be met despite difficult economic circumstances over the current parliament.
More than three million people in the UK are employed in the industry, and BSA members appreciate how important it is that their employees have the training and development opportunities they need. This isn’t just good for staff – it is good for business as well.
To allow businesses to grow, there must also be the right balance between employment legislation and flexibility. The BSA works with policymakers to ensure that regulation such as the Agency Workers Directive, the Working Time Directive and TUPE operate effectively.
